MPS 2018
Library week (MPS) is the event that I anticipated the most
throughout the year. To be very honest, it is the most fun, most exciting and
most awesome week that happened. The theme changes from year to year. From what
I could remember, the themes that I’d experienced are ocean, music and war- and
this year is the theme that every youngster in our school crazy at-- “Korea”.
The one who chose this theme was a genius especially when Kpop and K-Drama has
gotten so famous and fans around the world are so crazy about them.
The first thing during MPS is you have to tour around the
library. It’s a tradition. Every year when MPS is held, all classes will have
to go the library for a tour. In the library, several tour guides are ready to
give you presentations about the theme they researched on. During this year’s
MPS, I learnt a lot about Korea and their culture. We were so enthusiastic to
play the games and answer the quizzes just to earn candies (a great medicine to
prevent us from sleeping for the next period). There were so many information
regarding Korea decorated on mahjong papers around the library. During the
tour, we can stop at the sales counter to buy food, badges, keychains and
popcorns (I love the Oishi Tea they sell every year, it’s the best drink ever). Tteobokki, a spicy rice cake dish snack
and instant noodle, Ramyun was sold
during recess and I had Ramyun for the
entire week because it was delicious.
During Library week, I purposely stayed back just to watch
the Korean movies in the bilik tayangan (and
to skip koku, shhhh….). On Monday was
a chill, there were hardly people staying back (except the choir members) and I
had a great view on the chair. The movie showing was Along with The Gods, most of us cried because it was too touching
(believe me, it does even I had watched that for 3 times!). On Wednesday (don’t
kill me), the film showing after school was Secretly,
Greatly, a movie about North Korean spies disguised as South Korean
citizens trying to obtain information for their country. The bilik tayangan was crowded due to koku day and I was forced to sit under a
table (that’s the best place, I swear). After koku started, the crowd had
decreased and only those who were brave enough to skip koku stayed until the movie end (I was one of them. HA!). However,
when it’s 4.50pm, ten minutes till the movie ends, ten minutes till koku ends too, the library suffered an
electricity cut. Everyone was unsatisfied when we’re unable to witness the final
fight between the main character and the evil boss.
On Friday, the last day of MPS, Amazing Race was held. As an
old competitor (I have joined this game for 4 years without stopping and weren’t
planning to stop), of course I’d gathered my team to fight for the top 5 places.
We had so much fun when Yong Jin and Chiam, the class clowns, managed to put up
a good show throughout the game. The worst thing I experienced was- I had to
put 2 times counter pain lotion on my neck and getting soaked from head to toe.
Chiam and Yong Jin got the counter pain attack 3 times, Yong Jin cried. As an athlete,
Wen May said putting that lotion is the best thing ever. About the soaking
part, thanks to me. I started a water war in the field and we started splashing
each other. However, the best thing about this activity was- we got to enhance
our teamwork and foster relationships (I wasn’t really close to the boys but I
was glad we got along well). In the end, we got 4th place and we’re
so close to the Top 3 winner (Jeez, It’s Zheng Yang and his gang).
Overall, MPS is fun. It couldn’t be described with words
unless you experience the fun yourself. I’m already anticipating next year’s
MPS and wondering what will the theme be. I hope it would be as awesome as this
year’s and I would definitely join Amazing Race again.
