ICT-Thon Carnival

The school had this wild idea of raising a RM50, 000 fund. It sounded absurd at first but after seeing the school willingly to do anything they could to raise RM50, 000 for computer maintenance, I was proved wrong. They actually hit the target and managed to have some spare, maybe that’s the reason why our headmaster always says that DJ is a cluster school- because of that, the school did tried to organize a carnival for them to raise funds, and for us to have fun.

Of course I am not going to miss something like that, to see if they fail miserably or succeed prosperously, and at the same time have an ‘outing’ with my friends in the school. August 11 marks the day of the carnival. It was a scorching hot summer’s day: perfect for a day at the fair. The sky was dotted with a few candy-floss clouds. The school compound was flooded with students, teachers, families and friends. Faint music could be heard from beyond the tall gates with the occasional happy scream suddenly piercing the air. When you enter the school, food trucks and food stalls were scattered across the car park and the mouth-watering fragrance were all over the place.

Without wasting any time, my friends and I quickly went to the haunted house organized by the librarians. It was a long queue but we had a great time talking to each other and seeing other people being dunk at the 1st floor. At last it’s our turn to enter the house.  I felt silly when I found myself crawling under a table maze and occasionally hit my head against the table while hearing that spooky music played in the air (Not to mention Wen May the scaredy-cat who kept on grabbing my leg and I had a hard time moving). The journey wasn’t that scary compared to the haunted house in Sunway Lagoon (I swear I was trembling while clinging on Lacshen throughout the house and Katelyn was holding me so tight. We were following Chase who’s leading the group, walking in lightning speed and I nearly tripped a few times when I was surprised by the banging sounds, Ha!). I was laughing at Wen May who was hiding at my back the entire time and even communicated with some ‘ghosts’.

After the haunted house mission, we went here and there to clear other quests. We ate nasi lemak (they wrapped the sambal in a weird way), played Ping-Pong balls into cups just to get the emoji pillows, dunked people into a water tub and watched other people being dunk. Tried coconut bowling (I failed miserably and ain’t trying it again) and took Polaroid pictures. Time flies and it’s the second session of the carnival- DJ Teen Star Talent (weird name). The crowd roared with enthusiasm in support of all the performances. Emcee Solomon Theo was back from Singapore (yes, again, after the Leo Installation in July) with his group of friends and they managed to put a smile on our faces with their hilarious but non-sense jokes. Even the first session had drained all of our energy, we were still showered with power, the power to continue cheering for the performers.

Well, told you, anything is possible. I have nothing to complain except the song picking system, it sucks (organized by the prefects, duh!). There weren’t many choices (I mean like who cares about the cussing music when you’re having so much fun?) and I didn’t get to pick a great song for my friends as all the songs I thought of was not on the list (there were millions of songs but the list only contain of 87 songs, it sucks, I swear. Less than 10 Chinese songs??). I have to say this: compared to Yuk Chai’s 2014 carnival for the song picking booth, DJ’s failed miserably. At least you let other people write down their songs and only decide play, or not to play it but to limit us in an 87 song list range, silly.
