Hari Raya Aidilfitri Celebration

Hari Raya Aidilfitri, a festival celebrated by the Muslims. During this festive season, they hold open houses; an open invite to people of all races. I've never got a chance to celebrate this festival with the Muslims because I'm not one of them and I'd never really experience how the entire process feels like- until our school decided to throw a Hari Raya Aldilfitri celebration unexpectedly on Friday.

The moment I stepped into the school compound, I saw everyone dressed in their colourful traditional clothes, looking beautiful and handsome. Once in a while, the school allow us to wear our baju tradisional for certain celebration and on that day, we got to take cool pictures together. For the first few periods, we were asked to gather at the dewan as the ceremony is going to start soon. I was fascinated by the fancy decorations in the hall, thanks to our seni teachers and the help of their students. After a long speech from our headmaster, the Form 5 Islamic students performed a drama sequence companied by traditional Malay music. Although it was hard to comprehend what were they acting from where I was sitting, but I was able to grasp the idea.

After the drama, the students were hyped again when our emcee finally announced it was time for lunch. We queued orderly (to avoid being shouted at by Pn Lau) and waited patiently for our turn. When it was my turn. I saw our teachers had became a one-day worker busy serving us food. I thanked them profusely when they kept putting foods into my plate until it was as high as a mountain. There were Rendang, mee-hoon goreng, kuih-muihs that I barely could name them and kuah kacang.

If you were to ask me what’s my favorite food on that day, I would say the Rendang chicken, cause it is everyone’s all-time favorite. After lunch, our PDP resumed as normal. Although the celebration lasted shortly but I was grateful that the school willingly organized a Jamuan Hari Raya Aldilfitri for all of us. Even if it’s the first time the school tried to organized it but it was a huge success. I hope the school will do something like this in the future, so the non-Muslim students get to understand more about this beautiful culture.
